Start with Micro Contracts
MES and MNQ are 1/10th size of standard contracts. Use these to build consistency before scaling to ES and NQ. Lower risk while learning.
Focus on the Regular Session
9:30-16:00 ET (market hours) has the most volume and best spreads. Avoid pre-market (4:00-9:30) and after-hours (16:00-20:00) until experienced.
Master One Contract First
Master ES/MES before adding NQ or other products. Each contract has different volatility and behavior. Understand the one you're trading.
Watch for Reversals Near Close
The last 30 minutes (15:30-16:00 ET) often see reversals as positions close. Avoid large positions entering into the close.
Use Automation Wisely
Automated systems can help with mechanical rules execution, but market conditions change. Manual override capability is essential.

Futures Prop Trading FAQ
What's the difference between ES and MES?
ES (E-mini S&P 500) is the standard contract with $50/point value. MES (Micro S&P 500) is 1/10th the size with $5/point value. Use MES to learn and manage risk.
How much can I make trading futures?
Depends on your profitability and account size. A trader making $50/day on 100 days = $5,000. With a $50k account and scaling, this becomes $15,000+.
Do I need experience before trading futures?
Not required, but strongly recommended. Paper trade for at least 2-4 weeks before putting real money on the line. Futures are less forgiving than forex.
Are futures options available through prop firms?
Yes, some firms offer options on futures (ES options, etc.). Check your firm's rules. Some restrict options due to complexity and risk.
What are the trading hours for futures?
Regular session: 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM ET. Extended hours: 4:00 PM - 9:30 AM ET (slower, wider spreads). Most traders focus on regular session.
